Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
This verse is a conditional promise to Christians who have trusted in Jesus for salvation. It conveys a few key ideas:
God's plan: God's plan is always good, and Christians can trust that he will work things out according to his wise design.
God's work: God works in all things, including the ups and downs, to refine faith, strengthen endurance, and develop character.
God's glory: God's glory is also part of the picture, and the verse is about God's work and his glory as well as our good.
Being called according to God's purpose: This reminds us that "our good" is not our comfort or worldly success.
Obedience: Our love for God is demonstrated through obedience to his word.
Learning and growing: When hard things happen, we can learn and grow, and still thank God for his faithfulness.
